Bellaclan Puppies

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.” - William A. Foster

At Bellaclan, we approach breeding with great care and consideration, conducting thorough research on pedigrees to assess temperament, health, and structural soundness across multiple generations. This meticulous process ensures that our Bellaclan puppies embody the traits we aspire to nurture both now and in the future. Our dogs serve a variety of important roles, including that of therapy dogs, service dogs, search and rescue dogs, tracking dogs, geese dogs, and scent detection dogs. However, their most significant role is being cherished family companions.

The Border Collies at Bellaclan can trace their lineage to some of the finest Border Collies globally, primarily from Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. I have dedicated considerable time traveling to Border Collie National Specialty shows in the USA and Australia, where large entries—often exceeding 400 dogs—allow me to discover exceptional specimens to enhance our breeding program.

We typically breed a limited number of litters each year, usually one to three, unless exceptional circumstances. Our commitment extends beyond just producing puppies for sale; our primary goal is to improve and preserve the lines/breed and pedigrees entrusted to us by reputable breeders worldwide. We recognize our role as guardians of the Border Collie breed, which is both a privilege and a responsibility. When selecting which puppies to retain for our program, we undertake a thoughtful discernment process, evaluating various factors such as the breed's global needs, our own lines' requirements, and the essential characteristics that define the breed. Those puppies not selected for breeding will be placed into loving forever homes.

From the moment they are born, we raise our puppies with the intention that they may become show dogs or added to the gene pool. The decision of which puppies to retain/breed becomes clearer around eight weeks of age, although it is not until they reach two years and pass health testing that we make final determinations. Show dogs must exhibit traits of exceptional socialization, boldness, confidence, and friendliness, reflecting the highest standards of our program. Often, the dogs we choose to keep may not meet the criteria for showing or breeding, and we are dedicated to finding suitable homes for these wonderful animals. Additionally, we offer older dogs, whether they have been shown or bred, the opportunity to retire into loving, one-on-one environments.

Our puppies are born in our home, just down the hall from our living area, allowing us to monitor them continually. We maintain a vigilant presence for the first three weeks to ensure their safety. Our whelping room is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including incubators, oxygen, ultrasound, humidifiers, and extensive monitoring systems for humidity and temperature. We also have wonderful veterinarians on call 24/7, who are experienced reproductive specialists and also participate in dog shows and breed purebreds themselves.
